It's Always Happening Outside The Frame

Putting your faith into outside influences when it comes to making work can be a very daunting prospect. Leaving art up to systems of chance and logical processes out of the artist’s hands really shapes and influences development of the work and, ultimately, the final product.

Creative project group, ‘No Official Name’s recent exhibition at the Crocus Gallery in Lenton addressed this concept with work from eight young local artists that considered what happens ‘outside the frame’.

The private view evening on Thursday 18th October was a great success with a fantastic reception of the artworks. The varied work inspired great conversation and consideration of a number of different themes including, fairytale, travel, communication and love. A range of different media is apparent in the exhibition with interesting parameters to each of the works.

‘No Official Name’ are not based in one particular place, allowing the freedom and flexibility of working and being creative in any gallery or space. The group encourages talented individuals developing in the creative industry through supporting a variety of projects since the group’s formation in August 2011. Therefore, making them a perfect contact for any young, creative person based in and around the Nottingham and the East Midlands.

As one of the participating artists myself, I feel proud to be part of such a great exhibition and urge you all to get down to the Crocus Gallery to see it for yourselves!! And also, keep an eye on the movements of ‘No Official Name’ and all of their future projects – they are definitely ones to watch and a great contact to have.
