Venue Change: The 28th Annual Open

Owing to ongoing building works at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, this year’s exhibition will take place in the refurbished Old Library Gallery at the Leicester Adult Education College on Belvoir Street.

Arranged over two floors, the gallery has been redecorated for the exhibition – and head of arts and museums Sarah Levitt believes that the change of venue could introduce a new generation of artists to the competition.

“With the works to install a new staircase at New Walk Museum still under way, and with a major touring exhibition – Splendours of the Sub-Continent – booked in from early July, we had to find an alternative venue for this year’s Open,” she said.

“The Old Library Gallery will provide a very different backdrop for this year’s exhibition – and it’s a very accessible city centre venue. It could be that the change of venue attracts a whole new audience, and that the competition is enriched by entries from artists who wouldn't have thought about entering the competition before.”

Work featured at the Open will be available for sale – giving members of the public the opportunity to acquire original work at an affordable price.

Further information, full terms and conditions, and the online application form will be available at www.visitleicester.info/open from Friday (7 April).
