QUAD, Derby, presents screening of ‘Unrest’ in association with M.E. Derbyshire

QUAD in Derby will be presenting a screening of the new film Unrest in association with M.E. Derbyshire in November.

Unrest is a moving and eloquent documentary which confronts stigmas around an illness affecting millions worldwide, but which is all too often considered to be “all in your head.” The film is directed by Harvard PhD student Jennifer Brea, who was living an active life when suddenly she found her body is failing her. Confined to her bed and diagnosed with M.E. (also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), in response Jennifer picked up a camera and began to document her life. Using the internet she connected with fellow sufferers around the globe to search for answers in her quest to regain her health. Unrest also examines the cases of four other families whose lives have been shattered by M.E./C.F.S.

John Smith, Secretary, ME Derbyshire Support Group said “An important part of our mission has always been to help raise local awareness amongst the general public and health professionals about this controversial, debilitating and life-changing illness, which is often invisible to other people. Unrest powerfully illustrates how devastating its effects can be, not only for the sufferer but also for their family and friends. We in ME Derbyshire feel that the film will help to change people’s perceptions of ME/CFS, which is why we are very pleased to be associated with its screening at QUAD.”

Unrest (12A) screens in QUAD on Saturday 4th November at 12:00pm.

Following the screening there will be a panel discussion based on the issues raised by the film with: Lyndsey Dryden (Producer of Unrest), Christine Oliver (East Midlands CFS/ME Network Co-ordinator), Kay Holt (Founder member of ME Derbyshire) and Diana Shapiro (Carer to her M.E. suffering daughter for 27 years).

The event is supported by M.E. Derbyshire, all tickets are: £5.
