More brooch fun

More brooch fun

The Shrink art bug has definitely got me! I have been working on a few more designs, and have lots of more ideas. I will have a brooch for every occasion, and I think my friends and family know what they will be getting for their birthday, christmas and any other occasion! haha. I will have to try making some other jewellery soon.
It's just really satisfying creating physical objects, as much of my work stays on a screen!

Three Bridges Gallery

Three Bridges Gallery

I was involved in a really cool exhibition a few weekends ago. It was great because the artwork was shown under bridges along a stretch of canal on Barton. It was devised by a local designer Dan Poyner.   He came up with the idea several years ago while walking Rosie the dog, along the canal tow path. He found himself standing under one of the canal bridges, looking at the great expanse of concrete, and a little light bulb went off, and he thought, why not use these spaces to show art..

Good post days!

We may live in an instant world, where most things are done online, but you still can't beat pen and paper and snail mail. Here are a few things that dropped through my post box over the last week that really made me smile.

A card, little note and cute stamps from @letterloves on Instagram.  She is very passionate about snail mail, and asked people if they would like her to post out a card to them. The first few to respond were rewarded with a little envelope of happiness! :)

Shrink Art- It's magic!

Over the past few months I have noticed loads of cool pieces of jewellery about, that have been made using shrink plastic. For a while I have wanted to have a go at making my own jewellery and this seemed like a great way of having a go. I bought some Shrinkle shrink plastic off ebay and got stuck in. Here's some photos of my first attempts.

This one was done using permanent fine liner and pencil crayon. It was really exciting watching it curl and shrink in the oven ( it just needs a few mins at ..

Drawings and paintings :)

Just a couple of pictures of artwork I have done this week

This one I just did for myself, it was an image that had been going around in my head for a while, and I needed to get it into paper. It's just pencil on cartridge paper.

This chap, if you haven't already guesses, is Boris the miniature Schnauzer! Someone on instagram saw my painting of a sausage dog called Percy, and wanted one of their pooch. This was a nice fun one to do. It is done in watercolour and fine liners on watercolour paper.

Shirt dress

I am trying to get a bit better at my seamstress skills (very slowly!). My sister in law, is an absolute whizz at it, and makes absolutely gorgeous outfits. My dreams are not quite that ambitious, so I am starting by customising and altering clothes.

I decided to have a go at making one of my husband's shirts, that was too big for him, into a dress. The pattern was just too cute to not have a go at doing something with it!

I cut off the sleeves, and nipped it in a little round the sleeve ho..

Recent work

A commission completed for someone's wife for their anniversary, based on a few of her favourite things.

A painting for a first birthday and christening

A cross stitch portrait for someone's Birthday

I took my work into the camper van, so I had a nice little outdoor studio.

Winston came to keep me company! :)

A busy week off

A busy week off

So speaking of my busy week off, this is what I got up to:

A photo shoot on this beautiful split screen camper for Air Monkeys Magazine, the weather was glorious!

Time in the sunshine. Hooray!

A few treats, including a cute fox print Shirt, that was in the men's section of Primark, but I thought it was too cute to resist, so I bought it in Extra Small, and some vintage lovelies from Burton's finest Charity Shops.

We watched a photo shoot..

A trip to Reading and a brief visit to London

I am so ridiculously behind with blog posts! Normally I catch up during the school holidays, but the last one was so busy (happily with fun stuff) that I had no time to, so here's some photos from May.

We had a weekend in Reading, staying with friends, which included a trip to a The Sue Ryder Nettle Bed Sales. This was like a massive outdoor charity shop in the grounds of the Sue Ryder Hospice, and it was PACKED! Then we went to London on the Sunday to see The Postal Service, but spent sever..

Car Booty!

On Sunday, me and Joe had a proper urge to have a rummage around a car boot sale. We got up early and headed off to one in Derby, that we've been to on a few occasions, with varied success. We have never come away completely empty handed, but this Sunday we managed to gather a particularly exciting array of bits and pieces.

All of the goodies above came to less than £20. They were:

A genuine black forest Cuckoo clock - though it does need a service
A vintage wind up watch
A..

Goodies from Lichfield

You may, or may not, have read my blog post the other day about a little outing we took to Lichfield. While we were there I managed to pick up a few pretties!

We spent a while in a second hand book shop, and to be honest with you, if I had not restrained myself, I could have bought arms full of beautiful tomes! However, I picked carefully, allowing myself to get one; 'The Boy's Own Book of Ships' I just love all the illustrations, with their limited colour palette, which was probably done t..

A trip around Lichfield

We'd been to Lichfield quite a few times before, but recently I have been making an effort to really LOOK around when I go to places, especially those that I know really well.

It is amazing what things you notice and can take pleasure in when you make an effort, rather than rushing from shop to shop. It's also great what you can images you can capture on your phone now, so it often doesn't really matter too much if you remembered to bring a camera with you or not.

I had great fun picking up..

Princess Leia

Being quite a fan of Star Wars (well at least the original 3), it was only a matter of time until I did a bit of fan art, and with my love of drawing beautiful women, Leia was an obvious choice.

I had great fun doing this, quite ironic that she has a bit of a look of a Disney character in my image, now that Lucas Films has been bought by Disney! This was unintentional!

pearly collar

I'm not exactly great at sewing (though I'd like to change that), but I saw a tutorial for this in Mollie Makes and thought, now even I can manage that!

I bought a men's denim shirt on ebay, and made the it all together more feminine by sewing some beads onto the collar. A quick fix that Instantly makes It unique. Super, smashing, grand!

Wedding Commission

A few weeks ago, I was asked to create a portrait of a couple for their wedding. This is not the one I did, as they're not married yet, and I didn't want to risk them seeing it, but I wanted to share it with you, so I have altered it to this made up couple.

I really enjoyed creating it, and think that it would make a lovely memento for a wedding, anniversary or engagement.

If you are going to a wedding this year than why not get them something more personal and get in touch? Prices start at..
