Description:

Jonathan Woodward initially started zero2illo to chart his progress moving from a career as a graphic designer to a full time, professional illustrator. He’s fortunate to have been in the creative industry all his working life but after 12+ years of false starts and never really getting going, he finally decided to make the leap to his dream career as an illustrator.

He started zero2illo to serve as a place to record the ups and downs on his journey and as a forum to share his experiences, learnings and mistakes – in the hope that it would provide inspiration and practical guidance to others on how to become a professional Illustrator.

Along the way, it’s grown into a supportive, active community of creative professionals who freely share their knowledge and experience with everyone else. Our efforts now focus on running an annual event for illustrators…zero2illo LIVE.

The ultimate purpose of the site: To enable and empower illustrators (and artists) to power up your illustration career and build the business you’ve always wanted to run.

One of our most popular e-guides is the zero2illo Business Guide, but we’re often asked if we would be able to offer any extra support working through the 9 tasks in the guide or if there is a group environment available for learning.

So, starting on Monday 3rd December in the zero2illo Confidential private Facebook Group, Lea and I will be supporting members through 1 task per week from the guide covering the following:

First of all I want to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with the inaugural zero2illo LIVE conference – and a MASSIVE thank you to all the speakers who gave up their Saturday to generously share their experience and wisdom with us all: Rod Hunt, Leigh Hodgkinson, Kate Slater, Kate Hindley, Katriona Chapman..

What Inspires You to Success?

zero2illo

You know that feeling when you’re in the flow, feeling inspired and everything feels like it’s going right with your work and career? It feels amazing doesn’t it?

But what happens when those demons start poking around in your head and that self doubt creeps in, plans start to crumble and you feel like your career is going nowhere?

This boom and bust mindset is something I’ve become very familiar since deciding to pursue my illustration career! Here are a few ideas that I use to get ..

What Are You Worth?

zero2illo

When you’re first starting out as a professional illustrator or when projects are thin on the ground, it’s easy to just take whatever you’re offered…

Agreeing to work for peanuts, serving less-than-ideal clients who clearly don’t value what you do and ultimately, compromising on your values seem to be necessary evils to do what it takes to survive when your business is struggling.

But if you want to thrive – not just survive – there’s a harsh lesson in doing this, which I’..

zero2illo LIVE UK

I’ve always been keen to attend the ICON conference in the US, but with the travel and accommodation costs – not to mention the price of the event itself – it becomes quite an expensive trip.

I’ve always wished there were something for illustrators a bit closer to (our current!) home…

For a couple of years now, Lea and I have been toying with the idea of..

Becoming A Location Independent Illustrator: Andy Fox

I’m Andy Fox, a freelance illustrator and designer. I’m originally from the UK although I’m currently staying in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand.

Since 2008 I’ve lived in five different countries and visited quite a few more. Sadly I don’t have access to huge amounts of money and so I work as I go. Thanks to the internet however, remote working – or location independent working – is becoming widely accepted and has opened up the possibility of travel for lots of self employed people, ..
